Error Code VAN 57 (in Valorant or League of Legends) means the Riot Vanguard anti-cheat system failed to initialize. Because Vanguard is a kernel-level driver, it must load specifically when your computer boots up. If it fails to start or gets interrupted, the game will block you from entering.

Here is the step-by-step guide to fixing it, ordered from the easiest solution to the most technical.

1. The "Full Restart" (Do Not Skip)

Since Vanguard loads before Windows fully starts, a simple restart is often the only fix needed.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Important: Do not just "Shut Down" and turn it back on (as Windows Fast Startup often hibernates the kernel). Explicitly select Restart from the power menu.

2. Force Start the "VGC" Service

If a restart didn't work, the Vanguard service (called

) is likely disabled or stuck in a "Stopped" state. You need to force it to run.

  1. Press the Windows Key + R on your keyboard.
  2. Type

  3. Scroll down the list until you find a service named vgc.

  5. The client will detect Vanguard is missing and ask you to Update/Install it.
  6. Let it install, then Restart your PC to finalize the driver.

5. Check Conflicting Software

If you still get the error, another program might be blocking Vanguard:
  • Antivirus: Temporarily disable your antivirus (Bitdefender, Avast, etc.) to see if the game launches. If it does, add an exception for the Riot Games folder.
  • Other Anti-Cheats: If you have FaceIT or ESEA installed, ensure they are not running in the background.
